DOMIT WOLF PACK
It was summer proper and so hot that even the trees seemed to sweat. The river that snaked its way through the mountains and dense forest was almost dried up from the heat. The forest floor was overgrown with weeds, plants and other things but that did not prevent many different kinds of animals from living here. There were many caves inside the forest and the all held either a bear or mountain lion but one held something different. A family of wolves resided in this cave. The cave was set inside the mountain. It was low-ceilinged and damp but still warm and comfortable enough to live in. Suddenly from inside the cave there came a voice.
"No Con we cannot do that. We can never do that"
It was a large black wolf with bluish green eyes. His size and strength were unusual for a wolf. Clearly he was a Trakko, or alpha male.
"C'mon Bandack. We must."
This time the voice came from the back of the cave. A small gray wolf was standing there. He had white paws and blue eyes.
"No Con. The humans would kill us. We cannot scavenge from their dens. They do not trust us." Bandack growled.
Con shook his head, growling. He couldn't believe it. Bandack was pretty much sentencing them to death. The humans had caused all of this. They had killed all the deer that the wolves had used to survive. Now they would die. He looked around. Kyra, the Tratto, or alpha female was standing in front of the mouth of the cave staring out. Ever since the deer had disappeared Kyra was different.
'She knows. We can't survive without food. We are all going to die and she knows it' Con thought to himself
Snarling, he ran out of the cave. Why should he stay here? What point was there? It was all Bandack's fault. Con knew that. Bandack had caused everything. The exile. The hatred. Bandack had killed Leslok, the Tratto, of their old pack and Kitya, Leslok's mate, had exiled Bandack, his mate and all his friends for his mistake.
Con shook his head. Why should everyone else be condemned for Bandack's mistakes? Because they were friends with him? What a foolish reason to hate someone! Con stopped as he saw the river looming ahead of him. That wad their boundary. They were not allowed to cross it. If they did they would be killed.
Con looked around. There was no one. If he could just cross the river without being seen. Without being noticed. Maybe, just maybe, he could get away from here. Go somewhere else. Where there was food.
He glanced around one more. Still nothing. Sighing, he decided to take a chance. He raced towards the river, unaware that he was indeed being watched. Not by someone in his pack but by someone across the river. A large red wolf.
Con shook the water out of his coat. He couldn't believe it. He made it. He was free. Now he could go to the mountains and hide out. Surely there was food there. Food!
"Con! Watch out!" a voice came from across the river.
Con ignored the female wolf calling to him. Who cares what she had to say. But Con knew something was wrong. There was a breaking of twig and seconds late Con was lying on his back with a huge red wolf on top of him.
"What are you doing? Who gave you permission to cross the river" the wolf growled, paws digging into Con's throat.
"No one, damnit. No one gave me permission." Con growled at the larger wolf.
Suddenly it struck him. He knew this wolf. How could he not
"Greshak?!" Con gasped looking into his older brother's cold amber colored eyes.
"Yes Con. Its me. And now you shall die. But as a law of the wolf. It will be a fair fight" Greshak stepped off of Con.
Con struggled to stand up and face his brother but before he could Greshak leapt on him. In a flash Con realized he had to fight his brother to the death. In vain Con tried to sink his teeth in the bigger red wolfs neck. Wherever his fangs struck for the softer flesh, they were countered by the fangs of his beloved brother, Greshak. Fang clashed fang, and lips were cut and bleeding, but Con could not penetrate his brothers guard. Then he warmed up and enveloped Greshak in a series of rushes.
Time and time again he tried for the dark red throat, where life bubbled, and each time Greshak slashed him and got away. Many times after that did Con go for his older brothers throat but his attempts were in vain. Soon he tried to use his shoulder to knock Greshak to the ground, but instead, Con's shoulder was slashed down as Greshak leapt lightly and swiftly away. Greshak was barely untouched while Con was streaming with blood and panting hard. The fight was growing desperate. Seizing his chance Greshak bit down on his brothers neck and the younger wolfs jugular broke, gushing blood. There was a yelp then all was silent.
"Con! No!" the female wolf screamed.
