Blackstar stared deep into the dark waters below him. The sky reflected off of the surface and foam formed where the rocks met the driving current. The water moved with a nervous unpredictable intensity. He had many dreams associated with these falls. The experience of being propelled down into their dark depths once was enough to anchor his form to shore forever. At the time had thought his life was over, taken away by the bone chilling current. Now his eyes were as dark and relentless as the falls. His pelt glistened like the the sky and could see his fallen companions shimmer in the reflection of the ruthless raging river. Starpelt was glimmering brighter than ever and he could feel his strength growing stronger with their presence over him. It felt as if his entire existence was blanketed in their wise and knowing watch.
Blackstar flexed his claws and dug them into the ground then slowly let them retract. The earth beneath him was cold and bare. He turned away from the water silently to lay his eyes on the dead land before him. His eyes fell upon old tracks in the dried up soil. He walked over to get a closer look at the fossils of this forgotten forest. He felt his body chill and his saddened breath caught in his throat as he stared at the paw prints around him. He gently rested his soft padded foot so it mirrored directly inside the nearest imprint. He looked up around him sending a silent prayer to Starclan wishing someone would materialize out of the trees. He stared, but no one emerged.
There was no sign of life he was completely and utterly alone. At that moment, the sky never seemed so dark.
